New Mexico Travel Photography Video ~ During Covid November 2020
New Mexico…Do you know the way to Sante Fe! Navigating NM in the middle of a pandemic was interesting, to say the least. Nothing and I mean NOTHING was open. Heartbreaking to see so many museums, shops, and restaurants closed down on our visit in November 2020. I was excited to see the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. Sadly it was closed along with many other top sites. We will have to go back after Covid is under control, Sante Fe is such a cute town with so much to offer! One thing for sure, NM takes COVID very seriously, if you are walking around the town without a mask you will be fined $100. EVERYONE we saw was wearing a mask!
As we continued to deal with Santa Fe being a ghost town, we decided to make our own fun. Starting with our own Margarita Trail. We walked to a few restaurants that were open and sipped our way through the evening, the Prickly Pear Margarita was my favorite!
Next stop Taos NM, a beautiful drive through the Reservations. We found an outdoor cafe and tried my first real Mexican chili…thought my head was going to blow off!! Checked out Kit Carson Home and Museum, it was open because it was privately own.
The next day we jumped in the car and went exploring The Enchanted Circle drive: This drive, which takes you through the Carson National Forest and around Wheeler Peak, is one of the most scenic drives in the United States, giving numerous opportunities to stop and enjoy the view or take some amazing photographs. Additionally, you will find quaint small towns along the way where you can stop for a meal or explore. Red River is an Alpine village located at an elevation of more than 8,600 feet. It has a challenging Ski Resort in town, as well as small restaurants and shops that you can explore.
The last New Mexico stop on our adventure Rio Grande Gorge and Bridge, which towers more than 650 feet above the Rio Grande River. Great place for pictures, and to walk over the bridge to test your fear of heights, also the surrounding area contains easy hikes that allow you to travel along the Gorge to find new and amazing vistas of Northern New Mexico.
Drove up through southern Colorado to see the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. A sandbox of epic proportions, the entire dune field encompasses 30 square miles and the tallest dune towers 750 feet high.
My husband George is a history buff so we dad to visit Fort Garland Museum! Established in 1858 in southern Colorado, Fort Garland, with its garrison of over 100 men, served to protect the earliest settlers in the San Luis Valley. Today you walk the parade ground of the fort and tour the adobe buildings, which feature a re-creation of the commandant's quarters during Kit Carson's time. Rich in military history, Fort Garland also highlights the folk art and culture of the Hispanic community in southern Colorado.
Our 3-week road trip was beyond AMAZING! We’re not letting COVID stop us from seeing the world. We’re choosing to see more of our own beautiful country…HOORAY for the USA!
